...everything on this site is more or less under a permanent state of construction...

Unconventional • Concrete • Art

This site is mostly devoted to things made of concrete, something I've been working with off and on over the years.  The items displayed here represent some pieces that turned out O.K.  Given concrete's versatility, I've always been a little surprised more people don't work with it.

Fabric offers a novel approach to creating sculptural forms.   Even though it doesn't take a long time before new pieces start looking rather derivative, there is still enough variation available to keep things reasonably interesting.

Recent experimental work (2019-2021) designing 2D surfaces (e.g. tabletop or wall art) with interlocking patterns of different colored concrete is progressing toward a reasonably mature technique that is producing some interesting results. The piece shown to the right is not painted...just black & white concrete (and a little bit of gray).

If a more conventional precast approach to decorative concrete is what one is after, small sun faces (as well as some celtic-themed items I did many years ago) seem to find a receptive audience.

From time to time, sundials have been something of a preoccupation.

Do-It-Yourself

On the chance that some of the approaches I've adopted over the years find a second life in other workshops/studios, here is a selection of techniques I've found useful at times.
